April 11th 2002
Only 4 weeks left. Most arrangements have been made, but Katrien is still understandably a bit nervous. Mariken has been kicking and turning quite often, letting us know we should expect a lively little girl. One thing that still needs to be done is the address list for the birth cards. So... If you'd like to receive a birth card, but you think it’s likely we don’t have your address, please send us your street address. If you'd prefer an Email send us that. You can send us an Email by clicking on Email in the navigation menu. Mariken is getting 200g heavier every week now, and not withstanding the fact that Katrien is increasing her size as well, it’s getting a bit cramped for Mariken now. We're happy to report her position is good, and we're expecting a normal birth. The picture to the left is a boy in the same stage of development as our Mariken at this time by Lennart Nilsson. She's is fully developed, but will gain a bit more weight before presenting herself to the world.

This visit to the gyn-ob was the most important one with regard to birth defects. All organs were checked and accounted for. The heart is beating at a steady 140 bpm and both the back and the neck as well as the cranial cavity is perfectly formed and sealed. So all good news. I assure you this good news is certainly a load off, especially for the mother to be. The gyn-ob is still positive of the fact we’re having a daughter, so grandma's presents will not go to waist. As I told you before large angle photos are no longer possible, but I have posted a picture of Mariken's heart in the 'Album'. Next time we might be able to post some moving images in about a month or so.

21st January 20 weeks
|
Mother to be felt Mariken kick and scratch this past week. Sadly for me she's not quite strong enough yet to be able to feel the kicking from the outside. I guess dads just need to patient in this ha. I have however felt her head pressing against Katrien's tummy, which was quite a rush.

5th January/18 weeks

At this time we've had the first external echo. Mariken has grown too large to fit on the screen so we won't be seeing any nice wide angle pictures anymore until the second half of June. Anyway, the trained eye (and an interested father to be with a broad imagination) can still see the more important characteristics of this little girl. Her first measurements have been taken, skull, rump and thighbone, and her growth is right on track. Katrien (mother to be) has regained her appetite and most other discomforts common to the first trimester are leaving us one by one.

27th November/12.5 Weeks

Today's visit to the gyn-ob gives us the good news that 'fetus Lathouwers' is doing perfectly. The nervous system is in full development, and at the moment it has ample room to wave about its tiny arms and legs to its fast beating heart's desire. We've received new echographs which may be viewed with comments in the picture gallery. (Click 'Album')

1st November/10 Weeks
The first major milestone in the development of the child to be. This week the youngest Lathouwers leaves the embryonic faze and enters the fetal faze. (P.S. the picture to the left is not our 'young one to be', but is a pic taken by Lennart Nilsson of a 10 week old fetus)

Tim and Katrien have the distinct pleasure to announce that they are expecting their first child. As of Thursday the 25th of October the gyn_ob confirmed what T&K had suspected for a couple of weeks. By that time we were 6 weeks and 6 days into the pregnancy and the child to be was a whooping 8.6 mm. The due date has been set the 11th of June 2002. You can expect to be updated via this site every now and then. If you like to join in the joy please feel free to send us a message by clicking on E-mail. Also be sure to check out the youngest Lathouwers first baby pictures in the gallery(click Album).
